On 11 October 2024, the Day of the Logistics Branch of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the NBU issued into circulation a new commemorative coin called "The Logistics Branch of Ukraine’s Armed Forces."
The coin was presented by Deputy NBU Governor Oleksiy Shaban and Deputy Commander of the Logistics Branch Colonel Serhii Artamoshchenko.
The new coin continues the Ukraine’s Armed Forces series, and celebrates military logisticians who work hard behind the lines for Ukrainian soldiers, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of everything that defenders of Ukraine need.
“It is difficult to overestimate the importance of logistics for military affairs, because without it, no airplane can take off, no tanks can move, and most importantly, neither defense nor offense is possible," said Shaban. "It is not for nothing that military logistics is called the practical art of planning and managing the movement and supply of troops. The Logistics Branch provides Ukrainian military personnel with everything they need to effectively resist the aggressor and ensure our future victory."
"I’m pleasantly surprised by the NBU’s awareness of the Logistics Branch, and of our activities and capabilities," Artamoshchenko said. "Indeed, we are doing everything possible to ensure that our troops and units on the front line first and foremost perform their combat missions effectively. And although it’s better to remain silent about military logistics, it is important for us to see this coin issued into circulation as a recognition of our contribution to the common cause of Ukraine’s Armed Forces during the resistance and repulsion of armed aggression."
He also handed over to the NBU Money Museum the badge of the Logistics Branch Command of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, number 0001, which had just been approved by the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces on the occasion of the professional holiday of military logisticians.
Coin Design
This coin has a face value of 10 hryvnias, and is made of nickel-electroplated zinc-based alloy.
The obverse of the coin is identical to the obverse of the 10-hryvnia circulation coin designed in 2018, featuring in the center, surrounded by an Old Rus ornament, the coin’s face value, issue year, and Ukraine’s coat of arms.
The reverse has the following circular legend: СТАЛЕВА МІЦЬ, НЕПОХИТНА ВОЛЯ! (Strength of Steel and Unwavering Will!) and СИЛИ ЛОГІСТИКИ ЗБРОЙНИХ СИЛ УКРАЇНИ (the Logistics Branch of Ukraine’s Armed Forces). The main element of the composition is the image of the beret badge of the Logistics Branch of Ukraine’s Armed Forces – a stylized outline of a fortress with four bastions and superimposed crossed swords, with their handles downward and blades turning into wheat ears, and the Staff of Mercury placed vertically. In the foreground are schematic images of topographic road maps.
The coin’s reverse was designed by Tetiana Baluta and Volodymyr Demianenko.
Like all other Ukrainian circulation coins, this coin must be accepted at its face value for settling all cash payments and for crediting accounts.
The coin’s circulation and sales
The NBU will gradually supply banks and CIT companies with these coins for the coins to be issued to their clients. These coins will be accepted from clients like ordinary circulation coins at their 10-hryvnia face value.
Gradually, the NBU will issue about 10 million of such circulation commemorative coins into circulation.
However, some of these coins (500,000 units) will be made into specially-designed rolls. A roll will contain 25 circulation commemorative coins. Each roll is packaged in souvenir paper featuring the image of the beret badge of the Logistics Branch and elements that imitate topographic road maps and fragments of terrain. The issue number of the rolls will be 20,000 units.
This rolls will be sold through the NBU’s online numismatic store (the NBU plans to sell 12,000 such rolls), as well as through distributing banks (the list of these banks can be found on the NBU’s official website).
